What insurance coverage do you carry?

The Good Move carries all Colorado state-required insurance, including liability and basic cargo coverage ($0.60 per pound per item). For high-value items, full replacement coverage can be arranged ahead of time.

How does your pricing work?

Pricing is straightforward: we charge an hourly rate based on the number of movers and the size of truck your move requires. If your move takes less time than estimated, your cost is lower.

Are there any extra fees?

We include a standard gas and mileage charge for travel, and packing materials (like boxes and tape) are billed separately. That’s it—no hidden fees, no surprises.

What is your scheduling window?

Moves are scheduled with a one-hour arrival window. You’ll receive an email confirmation when your move is booked, a reminder the day before, and an automatic “on my way” text once our trucks leave Lafayette.

What is your cancellation policy?

7 days’ notice: your deposit is fully refundable. Less than 24 hours: deposits are non-refundable. Please let us know as soon as possible if plans change and we’ll do our best to work with you.

How should I prepare for move day?

Have everything packed, surfaces cleared, and items ready to load when we arrive. Unpacked or loose items can’t be moved safely. Clear communication up front helps us plan the right crew and truck.

Do you move in bad weather?

Yes, we move in rain and snow unless roads are officially closed. Please clear driveways and walkways so our crew can work safely. If you want extra floor protection, let us know at least 12 hours in advance.

Do you charge for heavy items?

Yes—there’s a heavy-item fee for safes, oversized furniture, pianos, pool tables, and similar items. Tell us in advance so we can schedule the right crew and equipment. Any additional cost is shared up front.

When is payment due and what forms do you accept?

Payment is due at the conclusion of your move. We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, Venmo, and Zelle. Per Colorado regulations, movers may hold items until payment is received.

Should I tip the movers?

Tips are always appreciated. A common guide is $5–$10 per mover per hour, depending on size and complexity.

Do you offer storage?

Yes—our storage is a short-term solution to keep items safe between moves. Access is not self-service; let us know what you need and our crew will retrieve it. Standard hourly rates apply for retrieval.

Brian brings over a decade of local moving experience to every job. He knows every hill, shortcut, and friendly smile in our area — and he’s committed to helping neighbors move with care and confidence

Fresh out of CU Business School and facing a steep recession, Brian Richards wasn’t content building someone else’s dream. Instead, he decided to tackle the toughest part of moving—the heavy lifting—and turn it into something people might actually enjoy.

As he launched The Good Move in 2013, Boulder County was hit by devastating floods. Brian spent those first few months not selling services, but helping neighbors literally put their lives back together. And the rest, well — that’s how The Good Move story began.

What started with Brian plus “whoever he could find for the day” has grown into a full team with multiple trucks, nearly a dozen employees, and over 500 five-star Google reviews.

At home, things have grown too. Brian and Ashley started this journey as newlyweds. Twelve years later—two kids and a thriving business that is stronger than ever—they’re still grounded in the idea that serving your community with care matters most.

They’re proud of what The Good Move has become, honored to share it with their neighbors, and excited about many more happy moves to come.

You probably won’t see her out on the move, but she’s always in the mix—scheduling jobs, keeping the home office running, and perpetually shushing babies in the background while Brian’s on the phone.
